Early College & Career Program - Dual Enrollment

Earn College Credit with our Dual Enrollment Program!

Leading Edge Academy Online offers enrollment partnerships with Grand Canyon University, Rio Salado College, and Central Arizona College (Pinal County residents). This allows LEAO students the opportunity to get an early start on college by taking courses while enrolled in high school. Participating students may enroll in core courses or explore a wide range of career-specific elective offerings. Concurrent (CE) & dual (DE) enrollment greatly improves the probability of continuation of post-secondary education upon graduation.

CE/DE courses are college courses. College course(s) require rigorous academic work. Course content may include controversial cultural, religious, political, aesthetic and human sexuality issues. Students must practice maturity to engage with the material in an academically appropriate manner as well as the organization and time management skills necessary to meet deadlines and to complete more rigorous work than is required in high school. Students must meet all college prerequisite requirements before enrolling in a CE/DE course. Students enrolled in CE/DE courses may be in classes with college students.

Applying for Concurrent/Dual Enrollment:

IT’S A TWO-STEP PROCESS

Step #1: CE/DE Eligibility - Must be completed PRIOR to CE/DE application

Step #2: CE/DE Application - Must be completed AFTER eligibility confirmation email is received

  • Approved CE/DE-eligible students must complete the enrollment process for their desired institution.

    • See program-specific instructions below.

***Students must enroll in classes according to the course progression and recommended course list. Students are encouraged to view courses listed as part of the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) courses of study when choosing college classes other than Math or English. Students should base their course enrollment on their future major. Students who complete an entire block of AGEC courses with a 2.5 GPA or higher, are guaranteed admission to ASU, NAU, and UA.

***Once enrolled, students should forward a copy of their schedule to Ms. Tate (ktate@leadingedgeacademy.com) to confirm enrollment.

Important Information

Books

Following registration, it is the responsibility of the student and/or parent to purchase textbooks. Bookstores are located on college campuses as well as online.

Attendance

CE/DE students are required to be enrolled full time at LEAO, with a minimum course load of four online courses. Attendance is essential for student success at college. Absences from class may result in a serious disruption to the student’s mastery of the instructional material or the student being dropped from the course; therefore, the student and parents should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. Please refer to each instructor’s syllabus for the attendance policy for the course. The instructor’s attendance policy often differs from the attendance policy set by Leading Edge Academy Online. The Leading Edge Academy school calendar and the college calendar may differ. If the college is still in session and Leading Edge Academy is not in session, please make every effort to be in attendance for college courses to ensure success.

Grade Reporting and Transcripts

Each student is responsible for reporting mid-term grades to the Academic Advisor/Ms. Tate. Final grades for the semester must be submitted to the Academic Advisor/Ms. Tate. In addition, high school credit will not be awarded for CE/DE courses until official final grades/transcripts are received.

CE/DE course registrations and grades are recorded on permanent college and high school transcripts. Transcripts will be used to evaluate eligibility for scholarships and financial aid and for admission to certain academic programs.

Withdrawing from or failing a CE/DE course may impact a student's graduation eligibility. It may also impact a student’s ability to receive financial aid in the future as well as a student's ability to enroll in additional CE/DE courses. It is the student’s responsibility to notify the Academic Advisor/Ms. Tate if withdrawing from CE/DE courses.

Credit Equivalents

In compliance with the Arizona Department of Education, high school credit will be awarded as follows for CE/DE course credits: 0.5 course credit/3 CE credit hours.

Transportation & School Hours

Transportation to and from CE/DE college campuses is the responsibility of the student and/or parent/guardian.

Student Code of Conduct

CE/DE students must abide by the college's Student Code of Conduct as well as the LEAO Handbook. Non-compliance with expectations may result in disciplinary action by the college and/or Leading Edge Academy.

Payment and Fees

Parents and/or students must pay tuition and fees by posted deadlines.

Tuition Reimbursement

Following completion of semester course(s), students are eligible for tuition reimbursement for a maximum of two classes in which a grade of C or higher is earned. Students must submit reimbursement documents: student transcript,  account statement, & reimbursement request form. Registration fees are not eligible for reimbursement. Only complete reimbursement requests for approved courses will be eligible for reimbursement. Failure to submit proper documentation by the deadline will result in the decline of tuition reimbursement.

Special Education Students

Students with IEP or 504 plans must contact the college Disability Resources and Services (DRS) office to request any accommodations that may be required under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
